Description

Northland Blueberry is a sweet and uplifting shrub celebrated for its abundant clusters of medium-sized, flavorful berries. The fruit has a delightful balance of sweetness and mild tartness, making it ideal for snacking, baking, preserves, or freezing. Early in the season, the shrub displays lovely white blossoms, and when autumn arrives, its lush green foliage shifts to a picturesque red, creating a magnificent accent in the landscape. Although Northland is self-fertile, adding another compatible blueberry variety can enhance overall yield and fruit size.

General Care

  • Sunlight: Requires full sun, with at least 6 hours of direct light per day for the finest fruit production.
  • Soil: Thrives in acidic, well-drained soil; incorporating peat moss or other organic matter helps maintain proper pH and moisture levels.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially while berries develop. A thorough soak every few days is typically beneficial in warmer weather.
  • Mulching: Apply a 2–3 inch layer of organic mulch around the base to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature. Leave a small gap around the stems for air circulation.
  • Pruning: In late winter or early spring, remove dead or weak branches to encourage strong new shoots and a productive harvest.

Northland Blueberry adapts beautifully to Michigan’s climate, delivering a stunning blend of lovely blooms, delicious fruit, and vibrant fall color—all in a compact form suited to diverse landscape designs.
