BEAUTYBERRY PROFUSION
Callicarpa bodinieri var. giraldii 'Profusion'

  • Height: Typically reaches 3–4 feet tall in cooler regions
  • Spread: Grows about 3–4 feet wide
  • Spacing: Plant 3–4 feet apart for best coverage
  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast

Description

Beautyberry Profusion creates a striking display from late summer through fall, producing clusters of vivid purple berries after small, pinkish-lavender blooms. As temperatures cool, the foliage may develop a light golden tint before dropping, which showcases the berries even more prominently. Birds are often attracted to these brightly colored fruits, offering extra garden interest later in the season. Thanks to its moderate size, this shrub is well suited for mixed borders, mass plantings, or as an eye-catching focal point in the landscape.

General Care

  • Sunlight: Performs best with at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily, though it tolerates partial shade.
  • Soil: Prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil; amend heavier soils with organic matter to improve drainage.
  • Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, it can handle brief dry periods but benefits from supplemental watering in prolonged heat.
  • Mulching: A 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Keep mulch slightly away from the stems.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring, removing older wood to encourage vigorous new growth and abundant berry production.

Beautyberry Profusion adds a vibrant touch to Michigan landscapes.
