Description

Barberry Golden stands out with its bright, golden-yellow foliage that remains vibrant throughout the growing season. In late spring, small yellow flowers may appear, sometimes followed by red berries that can linger into cooler weather, providing a food source for birds. As autumn approaches, the foliage often takes on orange or red hues, adding a new layer of seasonal interest. With natural deer resistance, this shrub fits well into foundation plantings, borders, or mass plantings. It also adapts to container growth when provided with good drainage and adequate watering.

General Care

  • Sunlight: Thrives in full sun to partial shade
  • Watering: Water regularly after planting to establish strong roots; once established, requires minimal supplemental watering except in prolonged dry periods
  • Mulching: A 2–3 inch layer of mulch helps retain moisture and maintain even soil temperature. Keep mulch slightly away from the stems.
  • Pruning: If needed, prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage healthy new growth.

Barberry Golden contributes a luminous pop of color to Michigan landscapes, maintaining interest across multiple seasons.
